Tito Mantillawith Message of Life
Country InfoWe work in the United States ministering to children in the US and over 20 Spanish speaking countries with the printed Word. BackgroundTito and Sandy accepted the Lord in 1986 and in 1988 Tito was challenged to use his native language to minister to the Spanish speaking people. While he was working for Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Tito heard of a need in the mountains of Central California, where a publishing ministry was printing and distributing Spanish literature to children all over the world. Tito and Sandy, with their three young daughters (and a fourth on the way), moved to Ahwhanee in 1990 to join the staff as missionaries. Tito’s knowledge of Spanish, his familiarity with Latin culture, and his training in management proved invaluable to Message of Life. Tito has served as director of Message of Life since 1992. Tito, Sandy and their 4 daughters currently reside in Mesquite, Texas from where Tito maintains contact with overseas distributors and churches in the US while he directs the printing in California thanks to modern communication methods.
Ministry DescriptionMessage of Life is a ministry founded in 1956 when Joe and Virginia Sanders, missionaries in Venezuela, in an area with no paved roads, television or electricity, found it frustrating to try to teach children with materials translated directly from English, designed for students from a more affluent society. Joe and Virginia and their co-workers began dreaming of printing culturally appropriate children’s curriculum on the field.
Now Message of Life offers twelve different Vacation Bible School programs and five years of Sunday School cirriculum for children from five to thirteen years of age and two years of Sunday School curriculum for preschoolers. All materials are written in Spanish and distributed to over twenty countries and many states in the United States.
By the end of 1999, 370,000 items had been shipped to twenty one countries. Since most of the items were pupil books, it was obvious that hundreds of thousands of children were being reached through the Vacation Bible School materials. In 2004, Message of Life distributed Vacation Bible School material for over 160,000 children and Sunday School material for over 114,000 children in Latin America and the USA.
The Hispanic market in the United States is also growing. In 2005, in addition to all the orders that were shipped to foreign countries, Spanish materials were sent to people in thirty five states.
Message of Life materials continue to meet a unique need in that they are affordable as well as being attractive and Biblical.
Perhaps a letter from a teacher in Mexico--one of hundreds of similar letters from users of the lessons--sums it up best: "I chose to order from you because these people are poor and they get more lessons for their money than if we ordered from any other place. Also, the spiritual applications are always so good that they will build up and bless the teacher." Serving With
