Ministry Description
Faith Comes By Hearing is a non-profit, religious organization founded in 1972. The purpose of the organization is wholly religious - to proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord in all that they do. They accomplish their vision by putting every translation of the Bible in audio form. They desire to implement Faith Comes By Hearing in every church or village in the world so that all people, especially the 50% of the world who cannot read, can hear God's Word in the language they pray in.
Our focus is within the East African Nation of Kenya. Kenya has over 50 tribal languages (total population is approx 30,000,000). One of those languages is the Saboat spoken by approximately 160,000 people of the Saboat Tribe. The Saboats live in a mountain region on the border of Kenya and Uganda, on the lower and upper slopes of Mt. Elgon, which is a dormant volcano rising to an altitude of 4,320 meters (approx 14,173 feet). The region is remote as far as transportation and communication. The group has little political and economic importance since they are small and quite remote from the capital city of Nairobi. Historically, centuries ago the people migrated from Egypt. They have a background of worship of sun gods and mountain gods.
In 1997 Wycliffe Translators completed a NT in the Saboat Language (after 9 years of work). Work on the Old Testament is underway. The Saboats now have the written New Testament, but many still cannot read, so the Faith Comes By Hearing Audio tape ministry is vital.
Audio Tapes for the Saboats were first produced in 2002. Through our Missions program we are providing funds to allow 13 complete sets of New Testament audio tapes to be sent to the Saboats. These tapes will be heard by approximately 1300 or more people each year.
We pray for effective production and distribution and for heart changes as the Saboats hear the Word in their own language.
